We put our job openings on Craig’s List (Yeah, I made that site)…(Nah, just kidding. If I made it, it would be much better looking)…

I digress. It’s interesting to see some of the responses we get back. It makes us really proud when other programmers and marketing people actually just email in response to the add to give us props! For instance, we got this one the other day:

“I applaud what you guys do. Keep the standard up around here.”

Talk about your positive reinforcement! Sadly, however, a lot of the responses are not so enjoyable. For example, we got this one the other day:

We are a PHP consulting company with offices in Apex, North Carolina and Decatur, Indiana. We only charge **.** per hour for PHP scripting with a 7 day money back guarantee. Here is our portfolio of work. http://www.******.com/

Thanks,

Stan ******
CEO

So, I checked out their website, and you can imagine how impressed I was. Here’s what I wrote back:

Hi, Stan!

Thanks for responding to our ad. We appreciate your interest. For us to consider you, it’s ideal if you could send your résumé, some sample code (just part of an application or a single class definition that you think represents your skills), and whatever background information you can provide that might aid us in our decision. Also, we’d like to know why you’re leaving your current employer, Agent Notebook, and how soon you’d be willing to relocate.

We get a lot of interest from developers who are fed up with the corporate world, or who are sick of companies that churn out bad code and mediocre templates. It’s good to find so many enthusiastic developers out there are getting out of that rut.

Thanks again for emailing us, and we’ll look forward to your response!

I’ll be sure to post any response I get. Of course, it’s more likely there will be no response, and that the message I got also was sent to every single other post in the web and internet tech job section of Craig’s List. Tis a sad state of affairs on our Worldwide Web.
